you, me, & Oscar Wilde: the writers guide to recognizing your saints pt i

not to name drop here, but i have a lot of famous friends.

Oscar Wilde is one of my favorites though.  he & i have a soul connection of some type.  i have his dandy bohemian style of living even though im verging on broke.

Frida Kahlo is my alter ego.  shes colorful, funny...& she inspires me as an artist.

Franz Kafka helps me with my metamorphosis every day.  i put on my makeup, i swear to god he is right there in the mirror staring me down.

Marcel Proust mocks me while im singing in the shower. hes a bit of a romantic though, i must say.  as is evident in his book Recherche du Temps Perdu...also known as Remembrance of Things Past or In Search of Lost Time.  fyi.  but seriously, Swanns Way rocks.  ive never read it, but i damn sure hope he gets the girl in the end.

the ghost of Rudolph Valentino guards (haunts?) me.  he is one of my guardian angels & patron saints of the arts.

i dont know why, but i have always felt a strong connection to Virginia Woolf.  i know thats not a particularly promising sign, especially since she committed suicide by drowning herself in the river.  perhaps thats why im inimitably & unusually frightened by being in or on water.

i am not saying i totally believe in past lives...but yes i believe in reincarnation to some extent, i guess!  i mean, there is no other good explanation for why i feel a strong connection when i read some peoples writing, etc.

i also know what Anais Nin & Ayn Rand were going through.  they had some pretty turbulent times.  but...all told they were pretty fantastically fascinating women for their own respective times.  i am not saying i would totally pattern my entire lives after them or anything.  but.

just to let you know, these are some thinkers who have drastically shaped my views on life, love, & literature.

i cant fail to mention James Joyce here, either.  he is from the same town in Ireland that my family is from in County Cork...Fermoy.  i like to think that we are somehow related, if not by blood then by sheer proximity of our blood having lived in the same village.

its interesting what can inspire you...sometimes it comes from the most unusual and unexpected places.

so, take it for what you will.  namaste! :)
